TTTech, a global leader in the field of robust networking and safety controls, announced a comprehensive TSN (Time Sensitive Networking) solution for the industrial automation market at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg. TTTech is collaborating with Intel on the solution, which combines a high-performant Intel SoC FPGA platform with best-in-class TSN Ethernet IP from TTTech, along with embedded software and drivers. The offering is designed to enable rapid development of TSN-enabled endpoint or switch devices for use in discrete manufacturing, process automation and energy management applications.
TSN is an extension to standard Ethernet and enables deterministic and low latency communication for real-time applications. Critical systems in industrial automation will benefit from improved data access, ease of use and network flexibility. Device manufacturers are now able to integrate TSN functionality into their products with lower development costs and reduced time-to-market with the comprehensive solution from TTTech and Intel.
“TSN is an exciting technology which is driving the convergence of industrial communication for Industry 4.0. TTTech is working with Intel to accelerate the adoption of TSN by offering a solution that is high-performing and easy to integrate,” said Wolfgang Leindecker, Vice President Sales & Marketing Industrial at TTTech.
Frank Foerster, European sales director of the Intel Programmable Solutions Group, says “As TSN is gaining momentum in many IoT end markets and applications which require dependable and deterministic connectivity at the edge and beyond, we are partnering with TTTech on a turn-key solution which comprises a robust and proven TSN IP solution combined with the flexibility and expandability of our SoC FPGAs.”
Intel Cyclone V SoC FPGAs provide the industry's lowest system cost and power, along with the flexibility to quickly deploy new technologies such as TSN, and can adapt as standards develop.
TTTech’s Edge IP Solution is a scalable, ready-to-deploy IP and software package. It is configurable from 2 to 5 Gbit Ethernet ports, and supports TSN standards for traffic scheduling (IEEE 802.1Qbv), time synchronization (IEEE 802.1AS), central configuration (IEEE 802.1Qcc) and frame preemption (IEEE 802.1Qbu / 802.3br), as well as policing and cut-through functionality.
